Everything Feels Different Today

My senses come alive the moment I step outside. The sounds of the birds as they play an aerial game of school-yard tag, dashing from tree to tree; the smell of the dirt becoming mud again, waking from its frozen slumber; the way the warm breeze looks so much happier blowing through the branches than those harsh winter winds did; the amazing feeling of that first breath of spring-filled air; the taste like no other, of that first beer sipped in the backyard.
I take it in, while the sun tickles my bare toes.

F'n March

F'n March
The Ides
Beware...

The lamb's mangy wool
The lion's lair

Luck o' the Irish
A joke I must think

What the hell,
Let's go get a drink

This Tear

Don't
take this tear
for anything but
what it is.

You
have no idea
how long ago
the river began.

It
came from a place
that was shaded
and green.

It
flowed to a place
exposed and
serene.

It
followed the curves
of the landscape
so smooth.

And
fell from my
face
onto the ground.

Rhyme & Reason

I had to look up this song's lyrics when I heard it for the 3rd time in less than 24 hours. I figure there's got to be some meaning to this coincidence. I'm aware that this song was written about a drug addiction, which of course doesn't relate to me whatsoever, but I think it has applicable meaning.

Rhyme & Reason

Dave Matthews Band

Oh well oh well so here we stand
But we stand for nothing
My heart calls to me in my sleep
How can I turn to it
'Cause I'm all locked up in this
Dark place -
And I do not know
I'm as good as dead
My head aches -
Warped and tied up
I need to kill this pain

My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone
My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm six feet underground

How long I'm tied up
My mind in knots -
My stomach reels
In concern for what I might do or
What I've done
It's got me living in fear
Well I know these voices must
Be my soul
I've had enough I've had enough of being alone
I've got no place to go

My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone
My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm six feet under ground

Six feet under
In my grave
Lying wired and shut and quiet in my grave
Leave me here
Leave me here to waste here
So young and here I am again
Talking to myself
A T.V. blares
Oh man
Oh how I wish I didn't smoke
Or drink to reason with my head

But sometimes this thick confusion
Grows until I cannot bear it at all
Needle to the vein
Needle to the vein
Take this needle from my vein my friend
I said

My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone
My head won't leave my head alone
And I don't believe it will
Until I'm dead and gone

In my grave
Lying
Lying cold in my grave
The reason -
My reason
Take my head off this terror
The fearing won't come back
I can't see
My mind's all wiped clean
The needle
Make my great escape
I seem caught in time
My head leaves me behind
Body fall cold
And I see heaven

Haiku Wednesday

I should be working
But my mind is in the clouds
Back to Earth I land.

Music of the past
You are the heartbeat in me
I live to your tune.

Haiku Wednesday

There are simple times,
And ones that rip you apart.
Which is it today?

Found a four of spades
Picked it up in hopes of luck
Guess I'll wait and see

A Favorite:

The following short, sweet poem is one of my favorites. The message depicted here is simple yet universal; everything wonderful must come to an end.

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Haiku Wednesday

I would love for us to share Haiku poems every week on Wednesdays. It's sort of an assignment to get the creative juices flowing.

Here are some I have for this week.

Winter never ends
Dreams of hot sunny seasons
Are so far away.

Smoke wafts high above
The dark beams holding us in
Only room for dreams.

Light fills up my lens
I see the world in color
This is who I am.

Patterns are Silent

Patterns are silent
But so are the waves.
They come and go
Yet always stay the same.

It's as if we are gauges
Limited at both ends.
We get to the top and
Fall to the bottom again.

The rhythms of life
In so many ways
Dictate the meaning
Behind every gaze.

Today it is less
Tomorrow it's more.
One day I'm sure I'll know
What this was all for.
